By the end of this scenario, the learner will be able to:

1.  Construct and modify the differential diagnosis for a patient presenting                                   with altered mental status, hypotension, bradycardia, and hypothermia.  

2.  Discuss the definition, presentation, and diagnosis of myxedema coma.

3.  Demonstrate and discuss the appropriate therapy for myxedema coma.

4.  Select the appropriate interventions for hypotension and hypothermia in the setting               of myxedema coma.

Diabetic Ketoacidosis

By the end of this scenario, the learner will be able to:

1.  Recognize the signs and symptoms of a patient presenting with diabetic ketoacidosis.

2.  Properly interpret a venous blood gas (VBG) and basic metabolic panel in a patient                 presenting with diabetic ketoacidosis. 

3.  Employ appropriate treatment of a patient with DKA including fluid selection, electrolyte       management, and insulin infusion.  

4.  Discuss the rationale of when to start insulin therapy with specific regard to serum                 potassium levels.

5.  Demonstrate the proper disposition of a critical patient with DKA.
